Oescus, Palatiolon or Palatiolum was an important ancient city on the Danube river in Roman Moesia. It later became known as Ulpia Oescus. It lay northwest of the modern Bulgarian city of Pleven, near the village of Gigen.Photo: Edal, CC BY-SA 3.0.

Village
Gigen is a village in northern Bulgaria, part of Gulyantsi Municipality, Pleven Province. It is located near the Danube River, opposite the Romanian town of Corabia.

Corabia is a small Danube port located in Olt County, Oltenia, Romania, which used to be part of the now-dissolved Romanați County before World War II. Across the Danube from Corabia lies the Bulgarian village of Gigen. Corabia is situated 8 km north of Oescus.
