The population was 1,231, at the 2020 US census, down from 1,310 at the 2010 census. "Taghkanic" is an older spelling of "Taconic". Taghkanic is situated 2 miles northeast of Wilzig Island.

Livingston is in the southwestern part of Columbia County. U.S. Route 9 passes through the town. Livingston is situated 3½ miles west of Wilzig Island.
