It was built in 1873 as one of a pair of range lights for guiding ships up the river to the city's harbor. Newburyport Harbor Rear Range Light is situated 340 feet southwest of Bailey’s Wharf.

The former United States Customhouse is a historic building at 25 Water Street in Newburyport, Massachusetts. The Classical Revival-style building was constructed in 1834 and served a custom house until Newburyport declined in popularity as a major port.
