The Bamberg State Library is a combined universal, regional and research library with priority given to the humanities. Today it is housed in the New Residence, the former prince-bishop's new palace. Gaustadt is a district of Bamberg, Upper Franconia in Germany. Gaustadt has a population of about 6,500. Until 1972 it was a small independent town, but in that year it became part of the City of Bamberg through a referendum.
