Kasama Nichidō Museum of Art opened in Kasama, Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan, in 1972. It was established to celebrate the forty-fifth anniversary of the opening of the Galerie Nichidō, the first commercial art gallery in Japan specialising in yōga or Western-style painting. According to legends associated with the shrine, it was founded in 651 during the reign of Emperor Kotoku, indicating a history extending over some thirteen centuries.
