Izumo-taisha, officially Izumo Ōyashiro, is one of the most ancient and important Shinto shrines in Japan. No record gives the date of establishment. Located in Izumo, Shimane Prefecture, it is home to two major festivals. Izumo Grand Shrine is situated 240 metres south of Main Shrine.

The Shimane Museum of Ancient Izumo opened in Izumo, Shimane Prefecture, Japan in 2007. The design, by architect Fumihiko Maki, references the locally-important tatara steel; construction was completed in March 2006. Shimane Museum of Ancient Izumo is situated 460 metres southeast of Main Shrine.
