Opened in 1878, it is adjacent to the northern portal of the Simplon Tunnel and is served by two standard gauge lines. Brig railway station is situated 540 metres north of Stockalpergarten.

It is the meeting point of two 1,000 mm metre gauge railway lines of the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn, the BVZ Zermatt-Bahn and the Furka Oberalp Railway. Brig Bahnhofplatz railway station is situated 520 metres northwest of Stockalpergarten.
