The palace is situated in the middle of the city, and used to be part of the greater Mechouar Citadel of which the historic defensive walls are the only major element preserved.

The Sidi Brahim al-Masmudi Mosque is a mosque located in central Tlemcen, Algeria. Completed in 765 AH by the sultan Abu Hammu II, ruler of the Zayyanid dynasty, the mosque was built alongside Sheik Sidi Brahim's tomb, which gave the mosque its name. Sidi Brahim al-Masmudi Mosque is situated 210 metres northwest of El Mechouar Mosque.
