Morioka Castle is a hirayama-style Japanese castle constructed in 1611. It was the seat of the Nanbu clan, a tozama daimyō clan who ruled over Morioka Domain, Mutsu Province in the Tōhoku region of northern Japan during the Edo period Tokugawa shogunate. Morioka Castle is situated 550 metres southwest of Iwate Prefecturall Hall.

The Rock-Breaking Cherry Tree is an approximately 400-year-old cherry tree growing out of a crack in a granite boulder. It is located in front of the district courthouse in Morioka, the capital of Iwate Prefecture in the Tōhoku region of northern Japan. ‘stone splitting’ cherrytree is situated 300 metres west of Iwate Prefecturall Hall.
