Fort Des Moines Provisional Army Officer Training School

The Fort Des Moines Provisional Army Officer Training School was a military base and training facility on the south side of . Established in 1901, the base trained African American officers for the U.S. Army during World War I and was where women first began training for US Army service in 1942 as part of the Women's Army Corps.
