Graf Ignatievo Air Base is located in the village of , about 10 kilometres north of , 's second largest city. It is the sole remaining fighter base of that state and houses two squadrons of jet aircraft.

The village is named after a Russian diplomat Count Nikolai Pavlovich Ignatiev, who played an important role as an ambassador of Russia in Istanbul for the conclusion of the Treaty of San Stefano that called for the creation of Greater Bulgaria.
