The facility opened in 1928 and was originally named Meade Field, in honor of John E. Meade Stadium is situated 1,100 feet southeast of Central Receiving.

Built in 1953, it was the home of the university's men's and women's basketball teams until they moved to the adjacent Ryan Center in 2002. Keaney Gymnasium is situated 1,800 feet south of Central Receiving.
