The Shekhan District is a district in the with its capital at . It is bordered by the Amadiya and Dahuk Districts of the Dahuk Governorate to the north, the to the east, to the south, and the Tel Kaif District to the west. , considered the political capital of the Yazidis, is also in this district.

The site is famous for the ruins of an enormous crossing the Khenis River, constructed of more than two million dressed stones and using stone arches and waterproof cement. is situated 4½ km southeast of Shekhan District.
