This city, listed among Iran’s World Heritage Sites, covers an area of about 200 hectares and contains a rich complex of historical monuments and structures. Bishapur is situated 3 km north of Gachkharan.

This palace was built for Valerian, the Roman Emperor, to reside in as prisoner, within the royal citadel of Bishapur, after the victory of Shapur I, the Sasanian king, over Valerian, the Roman emperor, in the Battle of Edessa. Palace of Valerian is situated 3½ km north of Gachkharan.
