Wasini Island lies off the coast of southeast Kenya 3 kilometres in the Indian Ocean, 75 kilometres south of Mombasa, and 3 kilometres opposite the harbour of the village of Shimoni.

Shimoni is a port village and tourist destination in Lunga Lunga Constituency, Kwale County. It is in southeastern Kenya near the border with Tanzania and directly across from Wasini Island. Shimoni is situated 2½ km northeast of Kwale County.
Mkwiro
Village
Mkwiro is a fishing village located on Wasini Island, 2 km off the Kenyan coast. It is easily seen from the shores of Shimoni, Kenya. Mkwiro Primary School is the only school in the village, covering kindergarten and standards one through eight. Mkwiro is situated 3½ km east of Kwale County.
