Sweimeh is a village located in the southern Jordan Valley, in the Balqa Governorate of Jordan. Its population is around 5000, within 726 households. Sweimeh's economy is based on agriculture, alongside small projects of trading and tourism. Sweimeh is situated 2½ km southwest of Wādī al Ḩajal.

Al-Maghtas, officially known as Baptism Site "Bethany Beyond the Jordan", is an archaeological World Heritage Site in Jordan, on the east bank of the Jordan River, reputed to be the location of the Baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist and venerated as such since at least the Byzantine period. Al Maghtas is situated 9 km northwest of Wādī al Ḩajal.
