Machaerus was a Hasmonean hilltop palace and desert fortress, rebuilt by Herod and now in ruins, in the village of Mukawir in modern-day Jordan. The site is located 25 km southeast of the mouth of the Jordan River on the eastern side of the Dead Sea. Machaerus is situated 4 km north of An Naqb.

The Mujib Biosphere Reserve is a Jordanian nature reserve and one of the largest, located about 90 km from the city of Amman, along the Wadi Mujib, approximately 32 km north of the city of Al-Karak. Mujib Biosphere Reserve is situated 4 km south of An Naqb.
