or Actia was the capital city of the Roman province of Epirus. Its site, near , , still contains impressive ruins. The city was founded in 29 BC by Octavian in commemoration of his victory in 31 BC over Antony and Cleopatra at the Battle of Actium nearby. is situated 4 km northwest of Órmos Vathý.

St. George's Castle is an Ottoman fortification located in the city of , northwestern . It was built in 1807, during the rule of Ali Pasha of Ioannina over the region, and it was constructed on plans drawn by the French engineer Frédéric François Guillaume de Vaudoncourt. is situated 3½ km south of Órmos Vathý.
