Palea Kameni, also known as Palia Kameni, is a volcanic island within the . The island was formed by a series of volcanic eruptions that formed large deposits of pumice and dacite lavas.

The settlement was destroyed during the Theran eruption sometime in the 16th century BC, and was buried in volcanic ash, which helped preserve its fine frescoes. is situated 4½ km south of Palea Kameni.
