Lesbos, or , is the northernmost of the of Greece, projecting out of the Asia Minor mainland. It is a birthplace of numerous poets and writers since the Greek antiquity.

is a popular tourist destination in the islands of the group, situated in the middle of the Aegean Sea. is located south of , east of and north of and .

is an island in the North Aegean Sea and one of the . Its capital is the town of , formerly known as Vathi. The Samians still call their capital Vathi instead of .

The are a group of Greek Islands, located in the southern part of the . The archipelago contains some 2,200 islands, islets and rocks; but only 33 islands are inhabited.

The are a group of 15 larger and 150 smaller islands in the southeastern and Eastern Mediterranean, off the coast of , of which 26 are inhabited.

The refers to the chain of Greek Islands stretching along the west coast of in the Ionian Sea. Due to historical facts the isolated islands of Kithira and Antikythera, south of the , are here included in this group.

The designation covers the easternmost Greek Islands of the Aegean Sea. The Eastern Aegean islands group is, like the , much closer to Turkey than to the Greek mainland.

The are in . These islands are places of mountain villages, fishing harbours, beaches, some ancient ruins, and some natural wonders.

The lie in the Saronic Gulf in the Aegean Sea southwest of Athens. They are a short ferry ride from and are popular for day-trips; some, like , are also visited by cruise ships.

The have a quite different atmosphere from the travel-poster Greece of the islands: instead of bare rugged hills topped with dazzling cubistic villages, the Sporades are fertile and heavily wooded, with pine-forested mountains…
