Dothan was a location mentioned twice in the Hebrew Bible. It has been identified with Tel Dothan, also known as Tel al-Hafireh, located adjacent to the Palestinian town of Bir al-Basha, and ten kilometers southwest of Jenin in the West Bank, near Dotan Junction of Route 60. Tell Dothan is situated 3½ km east of ‘Arrābah.

Bir al-Basha is a Palestinian village in the West Bank, located 15 km southwest of the city of Jenin in the northern West Bank. According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics, the town had a population of 1,307 inhabitants in mid-year 2006 and 1,725 by 2017. Bir al-Basha is situated 3 km northeast of ‘Arrābah.
