It lies on the slopes of the Wadi Mistal mountains at an altitude of approximately 1,500 metres above sea level in the Western Hajar Mountains, 140 kilometres from Muscat and 56 kilometres from Nakhal. Wakan is situated 6 km east of Wādī Kharār.
