While Afyonkarahisar Castle refers specifically to the defensive fortification, Afyonkarahisar refers to the town containing the structure, and was renamed from Afyon to Afyonkarahisar in 2004. Afyonkarahisar Castle is situated 3 km west of Aksu Dere.
