Sõmerpalu is a small borough in Võru County, Estonia. Between 1991–2017, until the administrative reform of Estonian local governments, the small town was the administrative center of Sõmerpalu Parish. As of 2017, it belongs to Võru Parish. Sõmerpalu is situated 4½ km west of Lake Vagula.

Võru is a city in Southern Estonia. Despite the picturesque location on the shore of the lake, Võru does not inhibit much of a medieval history. The central landmark is the cosy house-museum of Friedrich Reinhold Kreutzwald, the collector of the Estonian epic poetry and one of the founders of Estonian literature.
