In the gorge south of the village is the important early 10th century monastery of Vanevan and a large but broken medieval khachkar monument nearby. Artsvanist is situated 3½ km east of Tsovinar.

The cyclopean fort ruins of Kaftarli are located 3 km south of the village, with petroglyphs being present downhill along the bank of the river, among additional historic monuments. Vardenik is situated 4 km southwest of Tsovinar.
