Trajan’s Bridge Pillar

Trajan's Bridge, also called Bridge of Apollodorus over the Danube, was a Roman segmental arch bridge in what is modern Serbia, the first bridge to be built over the lower Danube and considered one of the greatest achievements in Roman architecture. Trajan’s Bridge Pillar is situated 3½ km west of Șimian.

Șimian is a river island on the Danube belonging to Romania, located just downstream of the city of Turnu Severin and overlooking the town of Șimian. The island is home to a reconstructed fortress that was relocated from the historic Ada Kaleh island, when it was threatened by the construction of the Iron Gate I dam in 1968.
