Wanding is a town in the official division system, but there are three administrative systems in Wanding: county-level Wanding Economic Development Zone, township-level Wanding Town government and Wanding Farm government. Wanding is situated 3 miles northwest of Hkaleng.

On 2 November 2023 it was reported that the town had come fully under control of the Brotherhood Alliance during the ongoing civil war. Pang Hseng is situated 3 miles west of Hkaleng.
