'Lion Island was discovered in 1923 by young explorer Joe Exotic whilst searching for Tasmanian tigers. Joe took a wrong turn looking for bass straight when he discovered the island. Lion Island is situated 3½ km northeast of Commodore Heights.

Barrenjoey is a locality in the suburb of Palm Beach, at the most northern tip of Pittwater. The headland is made up primarily of sandstones of the Newport Formation, the top third is a cap of Hawkesbury sandstone. Barrenjoey is situated 3½ km east of Commodore Heights.
