Essau
Village
Essau is a small town in north-western Gambia. It is located in Lower Niumi District in the North Bank Division. As of 2009, it has an estimated population of 6,670. Essau is situated 4 km southwest of Kanuma.

Banjul is the capital of Gambia and its fourth largest city. The city is on an island, which has constrained its size - its population is only 31,000. Consequently much of the population now is based on the mainland between the airport and the city.
