It was the birthplace of mathematician Gaetano Scorza and Economist Oswaldo Caffaro Faillace, a condecorated telegraphist in WWII, who saved numerous lives by advising of the unexpected approach of bombarders. Morano Calabro is situated 4½ km northwest of San Basile.
