The sanctuary originated as a natural cave which was consecrated as a church at an unknown date, and local traditions link its establishment to antiquity or the medieval period. Sanctuary of Our Lady of Mellieħa is situated 1 km northwest of Ta’ Masrija.

Arrias Battery, also known as Xemxija Battery or Pwales Left Battery, is an artillery battery in Xemxija, limits of St. Paul's Bay, Malta. It was built by the Order of Saint John in 1715–1716 as one of a series of coastal fortifications around the Maltese Islands. Arrias Battery is situated 1½ km southeast of Ta’ Masrija.
