Landguard Fort is a fort at the mouth of the River Orwell outside Felixstowe, Suffolk, designed to guard the mouth of the river. It is now managed by the charity English Heritage and is open to the public.

Dovercourt is a seaside town and former civil parish, now in the parish of Harwich, in the Tendring district, in the county of Essex, England. It is older than its smaller but better-known neighbour, the port of Harwich. Dovercourt is situated 2½ miles northwest of Ridge.

Harwich, pronounced 'Harich' or 'Harridge', is a port town in Essex, East Anglia. The ancient town centre is predominantly residential with a series of independent shops and the Harwich Redoubt Fort built in 1808 to defend its port against a Napoleonic invasion.

The Naze is a headland on the east coast of England. It is on the coast of Essex just north of Blackwater and projects into the North Sea. This area is south of the double estuary of the River Stour and River Orwell at Harwich and just north of the town of Walton-on-the-Naze. The Naze is situated 3½ miles southwest of Ridge.
