The River Ely is in flowing generally southeast, from to . The river is about 24 miles long. The Ely's numerous sources lie in the mountains to the south of , near the town of , rising in the eastern slopes of Mynydd Penygraig and Mynydd y Gilfach and the western slopes of Mynydd Dinas, whose eastern slopes feed the by .
