It is situated near to the edge of Clipstone village, Nottinghamshire but lies within Mansfield District Council's Newlands electoral ward and it teaches young people from Clipstone and the Forest Town area of Mansfield.

King John's Palace is the remains of a former medieval royal residence in Kings Clipstone, north-west Nottinghamshire. The name "King John's Palace" has been used since the 18th century; prior to that the site was known as the "King's Houses". King John’s Palace is situated 1½ miles northeast of Clipstone.
