Espel is one of the so-called green villages in the Dutch province of Flevoland. It lies in the municipality of Noordoostpolder next to a crossroads where provincial road N712 from Urk to Lemmer intersects with road N714 to Emmeloord, roughly 6 km to the east. Espel is situated 2½ km east of Onderduikerstocht.

Urk is a town and municipality in the Dutch province of Flevoland. This former island is situated on the edge of the Noordoostpolder and directly connected to the IJsselmeer. Because of this people in Urk still say they are living 'on' Urk instead of 'in' Urk.
