Maínis or Mweenish is an island off the Connemara coast in the heart of the Conamara Gaeltacht. The island is close to Carna and linked to the mainland by a bridge. It is noted for its isolation and rugged beauty. Mweenish Island is situated 3 km west of Finish Island.

Carna is an area in Connemara, County Galway, Ireland. It is located on the country's west coast in the Gaeltacht, about 74 km west of Galway city. Carna is an extremely small area, but as a focal point for the surrounding areas, it contains a Garda Síochána station, a Health Centre including a Rapid Response Ambulance, and an Irish Coastguard lifeboat. Carna is situated 3½ km northwest of Finish Island.
