Valchov lies approximately 13 kilometres north-east of Blansko, 31 km north of Brno, and 180 km south-east of Prague. Valchov is situated 2½ km southeast of Hrádkov.

The area of the historic town centre, Jewish quarter, château complex and castle ruin is well preserved and is protected as an urban monument zone. Boskovice is situated 2½ km west of Hrádkov.
