Monte Nuovo

Monte Nuovo is a cinder cone volcano within the Campi Flegrei caldera, near Naples, southern Italy. A series of damaging earthquakes and changes in land elevation preceded its only eruption, during the most recent part of the Holocene, which lasted from September 29 to October 6, 1538, when it was formed.

Baiae is an ancient Roman town situated on the northwest shore of the Gulf of Naples and now in the comune of Bacoli. It was a resort for centuries in antiquity, particularly towards the end of the Roman Republic, when it was reckoned as superior to Capri, Pompeii, and Herculaneum by wealthy Romans, who built villas here from 100 BC. Baiae is situated 3½ km southwest of Foce di Licola.

Cumae was the first ancient Greek colony of Magna Graecia on the mainland of Italy and was founded by settlers from Euboea in the 8th century BCE. It became a rich Roman city, the remains of which lie in and around modern Cuma, an area divided between the neighboring comuni of Pozzuoli and Bacoli, in the Metropolitan City of Naples, Campania. Cumae is situated 3½ km west of Foce di Licola.
