Maínis or Mweenish is an island off the Connemara coast in the heart of the Conamara Gaeltacht. The island is close to Carna and linked to the mainland by a bridge. It is noted for its isolation and rugged beauty. Mweenish Island is situated 4 km south of Galleen.

Carna is an extremely small area, but as a focal point for the surrounding areas, it contains a Garda Síochána station, a Health Centre including a Rapid Response Ambulance, and an Irish Coastguard lifeboat.
