Maurice Channel
Maurice Channel is a strait 1.5 nautical miles wide between Bellingshausen Island and Cook Island, in the South Sandwich Islands off Antarctica. In 1820, Fabian Gottlieb von Bellingshausen indirectly indicated the existence of the strait by describing Southern Thule as consisting of one high rock and three small islands.| Tap on a place to explore it |

Peak
Basilisk Peak is, at 255 metres, the highest peak marking the crater rim of Bellingshausen Island, South Sandwich Islands. The name as applied by the UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee in 1971 "marks the aura of this savage cliff which falls abruptly into a deep and steaming crater where the basilisk of legend might properly have his den."… Basilisk Peak is situated 2½ km north of Maurice Channel.
