Mitla

San Pablo Villa de Mitla is a town and municipality in that is most famous for being the site of the archeological ruins. It is part of the Tlacolula District in the east of the Valles Centrales Region.

is one of the most important Zapotec archaeological sites in , second only to Monte Alban. The site is strange in that the modern town of San Pablo Villa de has grown in and around the ancient ruins, so that there are different archaelogical zones with ruins, sometimes blocks away from each other, all of which comprise the official Zona Arquelogica.
