Gainesville is a ghost town located in Hancock County, Mississippi, near the border of Louisiana. Formerly a thriving port on the Pearl River, the town underwent marked decline due to the emergence of railways in the mid-19th century. Gainesville is situated 4½ km southeast of Indian Bayou.

Pearl River is a town in St. Tammany Parish in the U.S. state of Louisiana. The population was 2,506 at the 2010 U.S. census, and 2,618 at the 2020 population estimates program. It is part of the New Orleans–Metairie–Kenner metropolitan statistical area. Pearl River is situated 8 km west of Indian Bayou.
