The United States Naval Academy is a federal service academy in Annapolis, Maryland. It was established on 10 October 1845 during the tenure of George Bancroft as Secretary of the Navy. United States Naval Academy is situated 760 feet southeast of United States Naval Academy Museum.
Herndon Monument

The Herndon Monument on the grounds of the U.S. Naval Academy is a 21-foot-tall grey granite obelisk. It was erected in memory of Captain William Lewis Herndon, who died during the sinking of his ship, SS Central America, on September 12, 1857 while helping to evacuate passengers and crew. Herndon Monument is situated 450 feet southeast of United States Naval Academy Museum.
