Signal Knob

Signal Knob is the northern peak of Massanutten Mountain in the Ridge and Valley Appalachians with an elevation of 2,106 feet. It is located in George Washington National Forest in Shenandoah County and Warren County in Virginia. Signal Knob is situated 1½ miles northwest of Fort Valley.
Elizabeth Furnace

Elizabeth Furnace was a blast furnace in the Shenandoah Valley that was used to create pig iron from 1836 to 1888 using Passage Creek for water power. Iron ore was mined nearby, purified in the furnace, and then pig iron was transported over the Massanutten Mountain to the South Fork of the Shenandoah River for forging in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. Elizabeth Furnace is situated 1½ miles southwest of Fort Valley.
