The state park occupies 244 acres on a narrow peninsula, Wolfe's Neck, that runs between Casco Bay and the Harraseeket River. Wolfes Neck Woods State Park is situated 2 miles northwest of Pettingill Island.

Harpswell is a town in Cumberland County, Maine, United States, on Casco Bay in the Gulf of Maine. The population was 5,031 at the 2020 census. Harpswell is composed of land contiguous with the rest of Cumberland County, called Harpswell Neck, as well as three large islands connected by bridges: Sebascodegan Island, Orr's Island, and Bailey Island. Harpswell is situated 3½ miles east of Pettingill Island.

Freeport is just north of Portland in Maine and hosts the headquarters of L.L Bean. Because of the popularity of L.L. Bean, other stores were drawn to the area and it has become a shopping destination.
