Esopus is a town in Ulster County, New York, United States. The population was 9,548 at the 2020 census. The town was named after the local indigenous tribe and previously thought to mean "small river" in English.

Sturgeon Pool is a reservoir near the hamlet of Rifton, in the Town of Esopus in Ulster County, New York. It was created by damming the Wallkill River just above its confluence with Rondout Creek for hydroelectricity. Sturgeon Pool is situated 2½ miles west of Town of Esopus.
