It was established and dedicated on September 1, 2000 and opened on September 6, 2000, becoming the city's only public high school, with the merging of the original Niagara Falls High School and the former LaSalle Senior High School.

It is the only remaining structure that was part of the historic Edward Dean Adams Power Plant, the first large-scale, alternating current electric generating plant in the world, built in 1895.
