Fort Randall Dam is a 2.03-mile-long earthen dam which spans the Missouri River and impounds Lake Francis Case, the 11th-largest reservoir in the U.S. The dam joins Gregory and Charles Mix counties, South Dakota, a distance of 880 river miles upstream of St. Louis, Missouri, where the river joins the Mississippi River. Fort Randall Dam is situated 1½ miles southwest of Pickstown.

Lake Andes is a city in, and the county seat of, Charles Mix County, South Dakota, United States. The population was 710 at the 2020 census. The town took its name from Lake Andes which some say derives its name from a pioneer hunter named Handy, while others believe was named after Edward Andes, a fur company official. Lake Andes is situated 6 miles north of Pickstown.
