Slab City is a community of snow birds, military veterans, anarchists, neo-libertarians and others squatting off-grid in the Sonoran desert near the Salton Sea in southeastern California.

Calipatria is a city in Imperial County, California. Calipatria is located 23 miles north of El Centro. It is part of the El Centro Metropolitan Area. The population was 6,515 at the 2020 census, down from 7,710 at the 2010 census, up from 7,289 at the 2000 census, including 4000 inmates at Calipatria State Prison.
