The falls were used as a filming location in Jurassic Park for the fictional site of the "Mano de Dios Amber Mine" in the Dominican Republic. Hoʻopiʻi Falls is situated 3½ km northeast of Waipouli.

ʻŌpaekaʻa Falls is a waterfall located on the ʻŌpaekaʻa Stream in Wailua River State Park on the eastern side of the Hawaiian island of Kauai. It is a 151-foot waterfall that flows over basalt from volcanic eruptions millions of years ago. ʻŌpaekaʻa Falls is situated 4 km south of Waipouli.
